UGANDA Travel Guide

Uganda is a landlocked country which is situated in east Africa and the southern part of the country includes lake victoria shared with Kenya and Tanzania  and also the country lies across the equator dividing into three areas namely swampy lowlands, fertile plateau and desert region

IMPORTANT PLACES TO BE VISITED:

  • KIDEPO VALLEY NATIONAL PARK:The national park is located in north east Uganda which was opened in 1958 and also the parks border the south Sudan country. Two major rivers namely Kidepo river and Narus river which flows through the park
  • KAMAPALA :Kampala is the country’s capital and the largest city with places like The Uganda Museum, the Nomo Art Gallery, the National Theatre, The Rubaga and Namirembe Cathedrals, The Gaddafi National Mosque, the Wamala Tombs, the Bahai Temple and Owino market and Nakasero markets are two of the main markets of the city
  • LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK:Mburo national park is located in the western side of the country in Kiruhura district and the park has three hundred species of birds and animals like impala, zebra and wild buffaloes.
  • RWENZORI MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK:Rwenzori national park is a UNESCO world’s heritage site that is located in southwest Uganda and famous for amazing plant life, waterfalls, lakes and glaciers.
  • LAKE VICTORIA:Lake Victoria is Africa’s largest lake and tropical lake with area of about seventy thousand square kilometres. It is the largest fresh water lake and falls in the territory of three countries

FEATURES OF UGANDA:

  • English is the official language and Bantu languages are widespread in southern, western and central regions where Luganda is the preferred language of language publications and Nilotic language are common in north, northeast and central
  • Christianity is the official religion and about 75 percent of populations follows them and evenly split in membership of roman catholic or Anglicans
  • High proportion of grass and forest areas are in the cooler western highland and mountains are in the extreme southwest and used cultivation is intensive
  • Swahili is the language used as a link to communicate with the eastern neighbours of Kenya and Tanzania
  • One fifth of the country’s population is occupied by a group called Uganda who live in Kampala region
  • The national flag consist of six equal stripes of in an arrangement of black,yellow,red,black,yellow and red with white circle at the centre along crested crane
  • Majority of the Uganda is occupied by plateaus which are 800 to 2000 metre high and on western side is Ruwenzori mountain at an height of 5109m and on eastern side is Elgon mount about 4,321 metre height
  • Uganda is a well-watered country with numerous of lakes and rivers
  • It is a multilingual country and inherited from colonial period with indigenous languages with three categories namely Bantu,Nilotic and Central Sudanic
  • Majority of the population of Uganda are Baganda and they live in Kampala region
  • It is a home to endangered mountain gorillas along with 1061 species of birds
